Default DLE 35RA with straight pipe?

Are there any issues with running a DLE35RA with a Straight pipe? I got a sweet 160in C130, and Im trying to decide between 4 DLE20RA, or 4 DLE35RA. Either one will require me to run just a 6in straight pipe with no muffler, no room for muffler and fuel tank.

Has anyone run a straight pipe on there DLE motors?

Thanks Mike

Mike, IMHO, that will make about the most abrasive sound imaginable. Other than that, I doubt it would hurt a thing.

Actually a megaphone pipe would be louder, and increase the power. The AMA banned them years ago because of the noise. They were attention-getters!

Consider some Saito FG-21's. They fit well in confined spaces and aren't very loud.

How about four turbo prop units? Prototypical, and no mufflers needed. Talk about awesome sound. Question, do multiple real world turbo props "beat" like multiple piston engines? Or is the beat frequency too high if the speeds are not matched?

You talk about $$$$ 4 turbo props.

I gess if the sound is the goal. I could put 4 smaller electric motors with scale props. But running of just 6s. Then put the exstra Jetcat p80 I got and put it in the center fuselage for 20 pounds of thrust and sound

The "muffler" that comes with both those engine in no more than a deflector. It does not provide and back pressure and very little noise reduction. So your straight pipe will be fine. if you can stand it. The 35RE will be a mellower sound than the 20RE.

I agree to a point. Neither offers much in the way of tuning or back pressure. Running them side by side, there will be no mistake which is more obnoxious. The difference between the OEM muffler and a straight pipe is the "can" section of the muffler. If you talk with Al at Jtec, he's of the opinion the larger the can section, the mellower the exhaust note - though I'm pretty sure there is more to it than that, and limitations will apply.

The sound will be terrible. Too raspy and four of them will sound like crap! Use 120 four strokes!

(4) howling DLE 30 would certainly sound scale like on a C-130 .... not! How about electric, that would actually sound pretty decent and turbine like.
