Dave Platt Models has a 1/5 spitfire spinner for the MK. XII. The spinner looks about the same to me as the XIV, but will need 5 prop blades for the static version. Platt has those also. Suggest you give him a call and see what he thinks. Good luck 'buff

What make of 1/5 Spitfire do you have for such a large spinner? Most 1/5 scale Spitfires that I know of use a 121mm (4 3/4") or 127mm (5") spinners.

Hi kurrikan, I have PDF copies of a good two part article on making fiberglass spinners that may be of use to you. Send me an email at [email protected] and I will send you the articles if you're interested. Also, I recently had some spinner cones 3d printed for a friends Lancaster project. They are designed to fit an existing aluminum backplate and seem like they will be plenty strong. However, they are much smaller than what you need for your Spitfire. Not sure if this would be an option for you or not but it is something to consider. I don't think strength would be an issue as the wall thickness of the spinner can be made as thick as necessary to get the required strength. What I don't know, however, is just how well balanced it would be and how durable it would be over time. Just throwing it out there, good luck!

Building one for your airplane is simple to do out of composites, you just need a small wood lathe. Here is a link to a post I did a few years back, it may give you some ideas. You don't need to make and use an autoclave to do it, you just need the spinner and back plate molds for you're application. You can make them from carbon fiber, or fiberglass, your choice.
